

L. Henry Dowell studied Theatre at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Centre College and received his B.A. from Morehead State University. Mr. Dowell has been the Artistic Director at Ragged Edge Community Theatre since November, 2006 and directed 7 of the 10 plays slated for 2007-2008, including all Children’s Theatre productions. His responsibilities include oversight of all artistic programming at RECT, guiding the artistic vision of the organization, supervising all technical aspects of productions, directing all Children’s Theatre productions, and directing at least one MainStage production per year. Mr. Dowell has an extensive background in theatre performance. At Morehead State University, he appeared Orgon in Tartuffe, Volpone in Volpone, Professor Harold Hill in The Music Manand directed theUniversity's production of Bye, Bye Birdie. While there, he wrote and produced the University's Student Orientation Program It's Alright! At RECT, he has appeared as Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Michael in the musical comedy I Do! I Do!, and John Barrymore in I Hate Hamlet. He has also worked regionally with Bunbury Theatre, Lighthouse Theatre,The As-Yet-Unnamed Theatre Company, Lexington Shakespeare Festival, and Fantastical Theatricals Dinner Theatre Company. In 1994 He received a grant from The Kentucky Arts Council to teach Theatre at Clearfield Elementary School, and has been involved with Educational Theatre ever since. He has toured the state with productions of Abraham Lincoln, The Great Emancipator (1995), and The Four Presidents (1997). He was recently selected by the Kentucky Humanities Council as a Chautauqua Performer and will tour Kentucky from 2007-2009 as Dr. Ephraim McDowell, The Father of Abdominal Surgery. In addition, Mr. Dowell travels the state giving KERA Arts & Humanities-content workshops to elementary and middle schools. |
